The first day of beauty school can be both a stressful and happy time. One of the first things that will happen is that the student will purchase their beauty school student kit. This is a favorite among students because it makes the journey more real by having a tangible item relating to their chosen field.
Students can purchase the kits online and choose from a general kit or one that is created based on state licensing requirements. The kits come in a variety of rolling cases that include an aluminum case, plastic kiosk equipped with drawers, or a suitcase design.
Students will have fun exploring the items within the kit and trying out the items they will use throughout their careers. Each kit should have the following common items:
- Scissors, shears and razors
- Brushes and combs
- Hair dyes, mixing equipment and caps
- Blow dryer and diffuser
- Flat iron and curling iron
- Aprons and capes
- Clips
- Sprays
Manicurist and barber kits may also be necessary depending on the beauty school and will include their own specific items.
Students should check their kit as soon as they receive it and verify that all of the items are included and in proper working condition. This is important because showing up to class with an incomplete kit can add to an already stressful first day of school. Most schools require students to have a mannequin head, feet and hands in addition to the standard items.
The kits can be costly, ranging from $1,200 to $2,500 depending on the individual school requirements. Some schools have kits for purchase and the cost can be rolled into the tuition which may make that first investment a little easier to handle.
